This three day workshop will dive into a combination of both hand building and wheel throwing techniques and we will cover a broad range of surface solutions. You will learn various forming and glazing techniques.

  • On the first day, Billy will talk about his work and demonstrate throwing cups, bowls and pitchers and applying slip to the wet pots. You will see how he achieves his signature expressive marks on the clay forms and you will have a chance to try out several ways of making clay forms using the wheel, extruder or slab roller.
  • On the second day, Billy will talk about ways to achieve various atmospheric effects by spraying and layering glazes on the pot. You will continue to make pots and prepare them for the fire. Billy will demonstrate glazing your pots experimenting with the spray guns and dipping or pouring glazes.
  • A week later, on the third day, we will glaze your bisque pots and share an outdoor Raku firing. Your Raku pots will be available to take home at the close of the workshop.
